Polish Zloty exchange rate today
The zloty is the currency of the largest economy in the European Union that has not adopted the euro. Poland is required by treaty to join eventually but has set no date, so the zloty floats freely and trades mostly on the spread between Polish and euro-area interest rates.

Frequently asked questions
Every member state that joined after 2002 is committed by treaty to adopt the euro eventually, but no date is set and there is no obligation to enter ERM II, the exchange rate mechanism that serves as the required waiting room. Poland has not joined it, and adoption would also require a constitutional change. The zloty has therefore stayed independent since accession in 2004.
The top of this page shows the ECB reference rate — zloty per euro — for the latest working day. Poland’s central bank, the NBP, publishes its own daily fixing at a slightly different time, so the two figures normally differ in the third decimal. Neither is a price you can trade at; both are benchmarks used for accounting, contracts and statistics.
Because of foreign currency mortgages. Hundreds of thousands of Polish households borrowed in Swiss francs before 2008, and the franc’s appreciation after 2015 turned into more than a decade of litigation and bank provisions. It is the clearest large-scale example of what happens when income is in one currency and debt in another, which is the risk in any foreign currency loan.
Closely, but it is not fixed. Poland’s largest trading partner is Germany and most of its trade is invoiced in euros, so the zloty moves in a much narrower range against the euro than against the dollar or the yen. Compare the year-on-year figures in the table on this page: the euro line is normally the smallest change in it.
